Wedding Day Details | North Georgia Wedding Photogrpaher

When it comes to weddings, our goal here at Capture Thirteen Photography is to tell the story of your special day through pictures. From the little details of the day to sweet ceremony moments, to classic portraits that will adorn the walls of your home, even the crazy dance floor shenanigans, and the candid moments in between!

When our couples are planning out their wedding day, there is a lot of thought and sentiment behind just about everything that goes into their day. We’ve had brides who picked their wedding colors off of their favorite colors, grooms who have restored vintage cars with their dad to drive off in with their bride at the end of the night, brides who’ve worn their mother’s veils, and even headed out to a family property for bride and groom wedding day portraits beneath a massive oak tree that had been in the bride’s family for over 100 years!

One of the things we love most about wedding days is seeing how our couples make their day uniquely theirs. You see the great thing about weddings is each one is different from the next because each couple is unique so no two are ever exactly the same! When we talk about details we often talk about small things for example… something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue! Or even the more obvious ones… the bride’s shoes, her dress, bouquet, the invitation suite… we could go on and on!

Don’t get us wrong… these things are an important part of your day and are definitely important parts of the day that should be included in your list of details and documented. After all, you’ve dreamed of wearing your dress for months… maybe even years and you only wear it once! You’ve probably spent countless time searching for the perfect invitations to send out to your guests and your flowers only keep for so long. These details should totally be documented and preserved.

Here at Capture Thirteen we always have one final meeting with our couples prior to the wedding day. In this meeting, we provide a checklist of suggested detail pieces and ask for them to be gathered together in a box or bag and ready when we arrive so we can get started right away. These are typically the invitation suites, rings, bouquet, shoes, dress, etc. However, not all details fit into a box or bag, some are bigger like that classic car, while some details are tucked away so that only you know that they are there. So we also ask another question… Are there any other details, sentimental objects, or special moments happening during your day that we should be aware of? This is when we ask our couples to think outside of the box, beyond the list provided and ask them to think of any other special moments or mementos that might be a part of their day.

As photographers, we might not be able to capture the sound of the music as you dance to your favorite song with your best friends on the dance floor, or capture the taste of the cakes made by your grandmother, or actual sound of your voices as you recite your own handwritten vows BUT we can capture those emotions, the goofy fun or excitement or even the tears.

So be sure to fill your photographer in on ALL the details of your special day, after all, they are the strings that bind your story together!

To help you think outside of the box and give you a little inspiration… here are a few of our favorite detailed moments from our past brides and grooms!

Austin’s grandfather was known for always having a red handkerchief in the front pocket of his overalls. So on his and Nikki’s wedding day, he had one of his grandfather’s old red handkerchiefs tucked inside his front jacket pocket, while Nikki carried one of his grandmother’s handkerchiefs in her bouquet as she came down the aisle.

There was a family group picture from Kaylin’s mom’s wedding with all of her mom’s side of the family gathered together at the reception. Its was a picture that Kaylin and her mom love because it’s not perfect. Everyone is happy and laughing but not everyone was ready or aware of the click of the camera. It’s a photo that takes them back to a time and place. So for her wedding day she wanted to recreate that same kind of moment in time.

Kaylin and Daniel aren’t big fans of iced cakes, but they do love a good ole sweet potato pie! So in place of a wedding cake, Kaylin’s grandmother made their favorite sweet potato pie for them to cut and exchange instead! They also had a pie bar full of miniature pies for guests to choose from.

Jeff and Mallory ended their night driving off in a car that Jeff and his father had been working on to restore and finished just in time for the wedding!

Megan and John had many sentimental details tucked into their day. They were married in the same church her parents had wed in, and Megan even wore her mother’s veil as she came down the aisle.

For the reception and bride and groom portraits Megan changed into a flower crown and we headed with her and John to a family property just down the road from the church for portraits beneath a giant tree that had been in her family for generations!

While they dated, Nic would write notes for Kristin and fold them up and leave them for her to find. They didn’t want to do a first look on their wedding day, but they wanted to exchange letters. So a special moment to exchange a letter between the door was just the solution!

Ashley chose to do a first look with both her father and stepfather and wrote each of them a letter to read to them when she saw them.

When our bride Hannah was born her father gave her mother a gold rose ring. On Hannah’s wedding day, her parents gifted her the ring and during her first look with Caleb, she told him the sweet story of the ring.

At the end of Dusty and Nicole’s wedding night, the dance floor was closed out by a sweet friend’s serenade.
