The week going into Lucas and Katie’s wedding weekend, a 100% chance of rain and severe storms were forecasted for pretty much all of North Georgia. While we hoped and prayed the weather forecast would change for the better, it only seemed to be getting worse. By mid-week, Katie had contacted us to let us know that they were working to make changes to their original wedding day plans.
When we first met with Lucas and Katie at their booking in January, they shared with us their dreams and vision to have their wedding day pictures and reception at a close family friend’s orchard located in the Kellum Valley. It’s a spot they hold close, a place they enjoy spending quiet time, where they got engaged, where we took their engagement pictures and where they dreamed of celebrating with close friends and family. Knowing how much this place means to them, our hearts broke for Lucas and Katie, but we all knew it was the best plan of action.
With the wedding day pictures and reception moved to a local church in Cleveland, Georgia… we made plans for a post-wedding bride and groom shoot at a later date in the valley they love. (All while still holding out hope for an extremely wrong forecast… hey it happens!)
The day of the wedding came and so did the rain… lots and lots of rain. Even with all the rain and changes, to have seen Katie and Lucas on their wedding day you would have never known anything was any different than planned. These two had and kept the best attitude and never lost sight of what was truly important or beautiful about the day… their marriage.
Katie had said to us going into the rainy day… I know it will all still be beautiful and friends it was. We didn’t return to the valley because their wedding day pictures aren’t beautiful, because they are! They had a beautiful wedding day filled with friends and family with sweet memories made. We returned because we know how much this beautiful place means to them because it was their dream and vision to have their portraits taken in the valley!
Soon to be married friends, this is something we tell all of our couples… don’t stress over the weather! Rain or shine your wedding day will be beautiful! Rainy day weddings have a romantic feel to them that just can’t be captured on a bright sunny day. Don’t get us wrong… we lovers of the sun and want beautiful days for all of our couples, we pray for beautiful sunny days… but we can see the beauty in the rain too. Just don’t be afraid to dance in the rain or frolic in the sunshine! You can always put your wedding dress and suit back on!
Katie and Lucas did just that! They didn’t let the rain get them down and in the end, they got the best of both worlds… romantic rainy day moments and sunshine-filled valley moments.
