Why are we Capture Thirteen Photography? Why the number thirteen? What does the thirteen stand for?

Many of our friends new and old have been asking us this question recently, maybe you’ve been wondering too! It’s made us realized we haven’t shared why we are Capture Thirteen in quite a while… like since we chose the name… oops! So today friends, we’re sharing the reasoning behind our name choice and the heartbeat behind this little photography journey.

First a little brief history… Brandy and I shot our first wedding together in 2012. I was actually a second shooter for Brandy at this particular wedding, the day went so well and we enjoyed working together that we decided we should shoot weddings together all the time! By 2013, we had decided to officially become a wedding photography team and we needed a name. At first we choose the name Capture Photography… I guess you could say we were a little naive to just how many Capture Photography’s were out there in the world!

So, when we first set things up we used the number thirteen in our email address simply because we started in 2013 but soon after we had a quick realization that we needed to change our name to better distinguish ourselves. So in the midst of trying to decide what to do about our name, we had the thought, what if thirteen could mean more?

So what could the thirteen possibly stand for?  LOVE! That is exactly what the thirteen stands for! You see, in the Bible           1 Corinthians 13:1-8 is all about love and verses 4-8a are the most common scriptures used in weddings today.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8a (NKJV)

Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails.

So while this passage of scripture is perfectly fitting for our wedding photography, it also is a fitting description for Brandy and myself.  It is our hope that God’s love shines through us and our lives in everything we do and everywhere we go, because without His love, we are nothing.
